Arena patterns are an essential part of schooling. Accuracy at home whether it is riding through a corner or a school figure or a more complex pattern is vital not only for the growth and discipline of the rider but the suppling and gymnastic training of the horse.
I differentiate between a school figure and a school movement this way: A school figure has a set start and a set end, for example a circle or the three loop serpentine. A school movement has no set end point, for example a leg yield or a shoulder-in.
